About

KinBird Aviary &
Lovebird Genetics Calculator

We breed Fischer's lovebirds in Bangladesh and build tools so breeders everywhere can work from verified science, not guesswork.

Ayaan Shohan

Owner & Lead Breeder, KinBird Aviary

Ayaan Shohan has bred Fischer's lovebirds since 2023 at KinBird Aviary in Bangladesh, specialising in Aqua, YellowFace, Dun Fallow and Pale Fallow champion lines. Every pairing in the aviary is recorded, and those real outcomes feed directly into the Lovebird Genetics Calculator he built, which is why its predictions are calibrated to actual breeding results rather than theory. It was the first calculator designed specifically for Agapornis fischeri, handling the full mutation set, including Aqua, YellowFace, Pale Fallow and Euwing combinations that general calculators model incorrectly or ignore.

About KinBird Aviary

KinBird Aviary is a Fischer's lovebird (Agapornis fischeri) breeding operation based in Bangladesh, built on a quality-over-quantity philosophy. We specialise in high-mutation birds and champion lines, breeding Aqua, YellowFace, Dun Fallow and Pale Fallow combinations selectively for colour, type and health.

We document every pairing and outcome rigorously, which is how our genetics data stays calibrated to real-world results rather than theoretical models. That same discipline is what powers the free Lovebird Genetics Calculator.

About the Lovebird Genetics Calculator

lovebirdgenetics.com is a free, browser-based genetics calculator built specifically for Agapornis fischeri. It predicts the offspring distribution, by mutation and by sex, for any parent pairing, handling up to six traits per parent simultaneously.

Most existing lovebird calculators were built for Agapornis roseicollis (Peach-faced lovebird) or handle a limited mutation set. Fischer's lovebirds have distinct genetics, particularly for Opaline, Ino, and Aqua, and needed a dedicated tool.

Mutations covered:

Aqua B1 Aqua B2 Aqua Homo Opaline Pale Fallow Blue 1 Blue 2 Parblue Yellow Face Pallid Cinnamon Ino / Lutino / Albino Dun Fallow Bronze Fallow Dilute Red Factor Euwing Greywing Misty Green Series Dark Eyed Clear (DEC) Pastel Pale Recessive Pied Dominant Pied Slaty

Premium combinations breeders want most

The calculator also predicts the latest high-demand multi-mutation combinations, the YellowFace Parblue and Aqua crosses currently the most sought-after lovebird mutations worldwide:

Aqua YellowFace Parblue YellowFace Aqua YF Dun Fallow Parblue YF Dun Fallow Aqua YF Pale Fallow Parblue YF Pale Fallow Aqua YF Dilute Parblue YF Dilute Aqua YF Ino Parblue YF Ino

The calculator correctly models SF (Single Factor) and DF (Double Factor) outcomes for autosomal dominant incomplete mutations, Euwing, Greywing, and Misty, which most tools either omit or handle incorrectly. Sex-linked mutations (Opaline, Pallid, Cinnamon) show separate male and female outcome columns so breeding plans are immediately actionable.

We built the same engine-backed approach for budgerigar breeders at budgerigargenetics.com, a free Budgerigar Genetics Calculator covering the full budgie mutation set, made by the same team behind KinBird Aviary.

Scientific basis

Every inheritance model in the calculator maps directly to The Lovebird Compendium by Dirk Van den Abeele (2016, 769 pages), the primary comprehensive scientific reference for Agapornis genetics. Dirk Van den Abeele is a Belgian aviculturist and ornithologist, and was supervisor of the first complete genome mapping of Agapornis roseicollis. His compendium documents gene loci, allele relationships, and inheritance mechanisms for all known mutations across the eye-ring and rosy-faced species groups.

Where the Compendium documents species-specific differences between Fischer's and Peach-faced lovebirds, the calculator follows the fischeri model. Ino is the clearest example: it is sex-linked in roseicollis, but in fischeri it is the non-sex-linked (NSL) ino of the a-locus, which is autosomal recessive and allelic with DEC and Pastel. Opaline, by contrast, is sex-linked recessive in both species. Pairing outcomes have been validated against documented breeding results contributed by specialist breeders in Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Indonesia.
